New York Day

Timelapses have been a particularly popular trend lately, & NYC has been a hot spot because of its' edgy beauty.  So, Samuel Orr is taking the entire concept to a new level with "New York Day." Each video is a small story - people coming to life on their morning commute, going about their day, eating & then home in the evening — all compiled to show what an average day in New York is like. Orr says that including the sounds of the city makes the series "more of an immediate experience."

New York City's lifestyle and stunning visuals captivated Orr. He spent six weeks in 2011 and 2012 recording the city and its inhabitants, making sure to focus on "the movement of traffic and people, rather than of light or clouds." At times, this required carrying four cameras, and filmed everything by himself. Orr plans to make more timelapse videos, focusing on different seasons in the city, and eventually turning "New York Day" into "New York Year." The goal is to create a living, breathing chronicle of the people and places within the boroughs. The photographer currently doesn't have the funds to accommodate the concept, so he started a Kickstarter in hopes that others interested in time-lapses can help bring the idea to fruition. As of this writing, Orr's Kickstarter has made almost $6,000 of its' $21,000 goals, with 22 days left. Help him reach his goal so he can make this even more spectacular! @kickstarter.com/projects/motionkicker/new-york-year

Ellie - A Short Film. The story of a sex worker's encounter with an unlikely client.

About the Film

The film follows a sex worker named Ellie. She is propositioned by a young man, named Kenneth, who has been pressured into to visiting a brothel by his friends. The humorously awkward encounter between these two young adults reveals details of their troubled lives.
The ideas behind this film were inspired by the work of François Truffaut, the great French New Wave filmmaker. Improvisation and unscripted action, inspired mainly by the work of John Cassavetes, will be employed as way of telling this story.

Risks and Challenges

I've been writing the screenplay for this film since September 2012. Now that the screenplay has been completed, the biggest challenge with this project will most likely involve scheduling.

The film must be completed by May 2013. I predict further scheduling challenges while assembling my cast and crew for shooting, as I plan to utilize the talent of many people living in both New York City and Upstate New York.
I'll work to overcome these challenges by planning, planning, and more planning. For filmmaking, this is a key to success. Currently, I'm planning out the entire film with extensive storyboards and shot lists (I'll post pictures of these at a later date). Once a cast and crew is established, I'll also do quite a bit of planning so I can get everybody at one location at the same time, in order to best utilize our shooting time.

Where is your money going?

The money raised, if we meet our goal, will go to some of the many expenses of production, including (but not limited to): feeding all of the cast and crew everyday we shoot, transportation, securing locations, props and wardrobe, and anything we might need to buy along the way.

Other Ways You Can Help
If you're unable to contribute money to the campaign, you're still able to help out! Simply share this page with anyone you know who may be interested in helping us meet our goal.

LET'S STOP KONY in 2012

Joseph Kony is a bad dude from Uganda. He abducts and conscripts children into his own personal army. He's fathered 100's of children by taking young girls between 9 & 18 yrs of age as wives. Even has children perform unthinkable acts to prove allegiance to him. He’s pretty much a monster and he should probably be stopped; that much is straight forward. When this video about Kony by Invisible Children blew up though, things got really complicated and have really shone a light on this

Projection on the Bridge - Immersive Surfaces - As Above, So Below

A one of a kind public art experience, a projection mapping installation for multiple surfaces and multiple dimensions. .

Unfolding like an animated modern Botticelli painting, flowing above our heads and spreading outwards in every direction, “As Above, So Below” immersed viewers in the architecture of the Manhattan Bridge.

Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising's Image of Women

I'M TIRED OF WOMEN BEING OBJECTIFIED AND USED AS PROPS.  NO ONE LOOKS LIKE THE PICTURES YOU SEE.  TAKE A CLOSE AT ADVERTS AND THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE PORES.  THIS IS A MUST SEE FOR ALL WOMEN.

Shit Girls Say - Episode 1

This is so funny.

Suicide?

Horrible topic, but people often feel depressed over the holidays and wonder whether to end it all. Many do. If you are feeling depressed, there is help available. You may feel like you are alone and nobody is as bad a person as you are, or is as hard done by as you are, and you are right that you are unique and special and feel bad in unique and special ways. But you are not unique in feeling alone and hurting and feeling that life is not worth it.

If you are feeling disconnected from others, if you feel isolated even when people are around you trying to help, you are not alone, others have felt alone and apart just like you. There is a way back, there is a way to connect with people again.

Others have felt what you are feeling and have gotten through it with help. You can get help too. You can get through it, you can be happy again.

If you are contemplating suicide, do not feel embarassed. Do not feel you will be branded for the rest of your life. Do not fear being shamed. Simply call 1-800-273-TALK (8255). In Canada 1-800-448-1833. In the UK dial 08457 90 90 90. In the Republic of Ireland dial 1850 60 90 90. In Australia, call 13 11 14. You will talk to someone.

They will listen. I know you want to be heard. Let them hear you. Let them listen. Call them now.

Journey to Seven Light Bay - Primal Rhythm

Primal Rhythm

The Adobe Museum of Digital Media is thrilled to announce the opening of their latest exhibition, Journey to Seven Light Bay, by Japanese artist Mariko Mori. This exhibition will take visitors through Mori's artistic process, from her past works to her latest work in progress, Primal Rhythm, a site-specific installation off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. Visitors enter the Tida Dome, designed specifically for the museum's atrium by Mori. This serves as a portal to Seven Light Bay, providing a glimpse of the new project before it’s completed in the real world.
